Storytelling: the Social Art of Language in 'Teaching the Arts in the Primary Curriculum' edited by Susan Ogier and Suzy Tutchell (Sage, 2021), pp57-66
Alastair K Daniel
'In this chapter we shall explore the role that storytelling can play in fostering a creative classroom culture for spoken language. The familiar ‘performance mode’ of classroom storytelling will be presented alongside a more process-orientated model, and they will both be considered in relation to creativity. We will identify some key competences that children need in order to create and shape their own narratives. We will also consider how we can support children in development of these competences and explore opportunities for storytelling across the EYFS and the National Curriculum.'
